History... Our Humble Beginnings
In 1958, ten men stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base formed a credit union to recognize and serve
the unique financial needs of Kirtland s military personnel. As a member-owned military financial institution, the
credit union filled a need among the military community not being met by the traditional banking institutions. From
these humble beginnings, Kirtland Federal Credit Union has prospered and expanded to include civilian personnel assigned
to KAFB, US Reserve Forces, members of the Air and Army National Guard throughout New Mexico, defense-related Select
Employee Groups (SEGs), veterans groups, as well as military retirees.
Our original purpose and commitment remain as vibrant and vital today as it was so many years ago.
We continue to serve those who serve.
Kirtland Federal Credit Union offers a complete line of financial products and services via the internet, in
person, and via telephone. As a financial cooperative, our members
are both owners and customers. Profits are returned to our members through lower loan rates, higher savings rates,
and lower fees. This cooperative ownership structure is the key difference between a credit union and a bank.
Mission... Why We Exist
Exceed the financial service expectations of our members - principally those in the military and
in organizations who support the defense of our nation.
Vision... What We Want to Be
Recognized by our members as their primary financial institution. We will continue to grow
and adapt to changes in our membership, marketplace and environment.
Core Values... Our Ethical Compass to Guide Us in Serving Others
Just as the military services are true to their stated Core Values of such ideals as Integrity,
Service, and Excellence to guide them in their mission, Kirtland Federal Credit Union also uses its Core Values
as an ethical compass to guide us in serving our members. These are not values that change from time to time, situation
to situation, or person to person... but rather, they are the underpinning of our company culture.
These principles, taken together, truly define us on a day-to-day basis, both locally and globally.
Please click on each word (below) for a more in-depth description of the Core Value.
Trustworthiness
We are honest with each other and act with integrity when we serve members. We keep
our promises and make clear commitments. We promote and protect the interests of co-workers, members,
and the credit union. We safeguard confidential information. |
Responsibility
We continuously pursue excellence and know that others rely on our skill, knowledge,
ability, and willingness to help. We always do our best to promote trust and confidence in the work we
do and the credit union we represent. |
Respect
We serve others in the same way we wish to be served. We show respect by being courteous
and polite at all times. We are active and attentive listeners and take the extra time or effort to understand
others more completely. |
Fairness
We use open-minded and objective processes for gathering and evaluating information
necessary to make decisions. We make unbiased and impartial decisions. We correct our mistakes promptly
and voluntarily. |
Citizenship
We understand both the letter and spirit of the laws and regulations that apply to
us, and we obey them. We are an active part of the greater community in which we live and work. We proudly
serve members who are serving, or have served, our country in uniform. |
Caring
We exhibit genuine empathy and concern for the welfare of co-workers, members, and
others. We give to charities and support worthwhile causes because we care, not to promote personal interests
or the credit union. |
