Kirtland Federal Credit Union distributed three scholarships at its annual Club F.I.T. scholarship program breakfast last week. Kirtland Federal Credit Union President/CEO  Tom Shoemaker awarded Celeste Martinez a $2,000 scholarship for Fordham University, Elizabeth Randolph was awarded a $1,500 scholarship for Grand Canyon University and Hannah Linder was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for New Mexico State University. In addition to their scholarships, each awardee received a $200 Visa gift card.

The Club F.I.T. Scholarship program is open to all members (or entrants sponsored by a member) who have graduated high school and are headed to a 2- or 4-year college for the first time during the upcoming fall semester. Their application included an essay about a book that dramatically impacted their lives. Kirtland FCU is dedicated to empowering financial independence in the community. Strengthening families through educational opportunities is a top priority of Kirtland FCU, and the Club F.I.T. Scholarship program is a large part of helping the next generation of the community receive the top-notch secondary education they need to pursue their dreams.

“The thoughtfulness and creativity of our winners shone through in each of their entries,” said Shoemaker. “It’s thrilling to see these young people glean life lessons from the books they read and to see how far ahead of the game they already are. Books and literacy are a huge component of community success. Kirtland FCU supports many programs, including our KRQE Books for Kids partner activities, that aim to put books into the hands of our youngest community members. And seeing the skill and insightfulness of these scholarship winners, we see why that’s so vital to future success.”
